Friday Finds

Aaron has created a monster.
Yes, I will blame him this time.  You see, despite the fact that I have far too many clothes already, it was still his idea to stop by Goodwill.  Who was I to say no?
Okay, I can't really blame the poor guy for creating something that wasn't there.  I've always loved to shop and can really never get enough of it.  So now I channel it into thrift shopping, where the cost is low and good things can still be found!

Here's what I found:
An Old Navy cardigan in the perfect shade!

Another Old Navy Gem- perfect for Spring/Summer

A tan blazer! I've been looking for one for so long!

Yet another striped shirt from Land's End.  I can see this becoming a favorite!
Have you ever tried thrift shopping? If so? Are you hooked?
I am....

Thrifty finds...it has been awhile!

Last weekend, my sister and I went to a couple antique and thrift stores.  I didn't find much on that trip -besides a bracelet and a look-alike doll, but it reminded me that I haven't shown you recent purchases in awhile.
What was I thinking?
So without further ado:
The finds :0)

A compact mirror...love all the bright colors!

A cool watercolor (?) of a girl standing on the edge of a rock
...for only $5!! But the frame MUST go!

A cute eyelet top(picture it with skinny jeans and boots)
from Goodwill!

Polka dot skirt from Goodwill..only $4
Yellow/turquoise bracelet on the far left from an antique store
And last but not least...the Happy meal Whitney!
I didn't buy her but my sister and I cracked up
and snapped a picture!
So that's if for now.  I've been trying to stay away from Goodwill as I've noticed the clothes I find and purchase from there are usually (but not always) the clothes I seem to get tired of the fastest.
Although, now that I think of it, I may head there to day.  You know, just to look.
What can I say? Old habits die hard...or don't die at all.

15 days and counting....

     Dear Shopping,

I miss you.  Do you miss me? Have you thought about me?  I think about you . A. Whole. Lot.  Probably more than the healthy amount one should think about shopping, or anything for that matter.  Am I saying too much?  Now I'm a little embarrassed.  No I'm not.
Well Shopping, I'm writing you today to let you know we will be together in 15 short days (that's 2 weeks and one day- psh...not like I'm counting or anything though.....)  Reunited, and it will feel so good (that sounds dirty but I don't mean any dirty business in saying that....this is a wholesome, unadulterated love shopping and I.AM. COMMITTED.  Or maybe should be committed?

But I digress.  Shopping?!  Are you still reading this?  I'm sorry I took you for granted at times, but I really enjoyed our times spent together.  You were the one ran to for stress relief (HELLO blessed retail therapy!)  I miss you and I really feel like I learned my lesson.  I know now I need to treat you with respect and only call when I really need something...not because I'm bored or had a bad day.  No good comes of that.  At the end of the day, no one wants your emotional hand-me-downs, do they?
So I just had to tell you how I really feel.  I wanted to let you know I'm a changed woman-girl and I look forward to seeing you soon!
                                            Sincerely,

                                                    Crazy,crazy Whitney

Did I forget to mention?

Did I forget to mention that I placed myself on a self-imposed, no-shopping-for-clothes-for-30 days challenge?
No?
That's right.  Maybe it was because I secretly felt I would fail (as I do most challenges) and didn't want you to know.
But because I am nothing but discreet (ha ha) I tell anyone who will listen, well....anything.
So I felt I should tell you that I made it to 15 days of no shopping and then cheated, or quite literally, stopped the challenge.
The most asked question is "What did you buy then?"
Answer: A grey. menswear inspired vintage Givenchy vest at Goodwill for $2.99!!
That's right folks!  Givenchy for only $2.99!
(are there enough exclamation marks in those last two sentences?)
I think it was well worth the challenge-breakage.
I will incorporate the vest- which means a picture of the said vest- into an outfit after I both drop it off and pick it up from the dry cleaner's.
Stay tuned!

School is now in session....

Can you feel the chill in the air when you wake up in the mornings?  I can.  In fact as soon as my bare feet hit the bare floors of our house it sends a small chill from the tip of my toes to the top of my head reminding me that Fall is just around the corner.  It should be here by now, but temperatures are still pretty high and keep pushing it away.  I'm not complaining, just letting the universe know I'm ready for it.

I've mentioned before how much I look forward to Fall for the things I enjoy about it now- as a pseudo-adult.  But as Fall rolls around, it also reminds me of the first days of school and how much I loved what the first day of school meant for me: shopping (are you surprised by this?!)
In fact, I think my love of shopping reared it's trendy little head at an early age because for me, I was more excited about shopping for school than actually going to school.  Go figure!
First of all, we would shop for the school supplies.  I usually got a new back pack, folders, binders, pens and pencils, etc. and I would put all of my newly acquired supplies in my back pack just to take them out to look at again.
I couldn't wait to put them to use!
Then came the clothes. Oh sweet clothes!  My family would usually drive over the hill to shop all day (literally all day....I loved it!) and I would meticulously pick out my clothing for the school year. After getting home, I would lay all of my clothes out on my bed to survey my purchases and decide on the outfit for the first day of school.
It couldn't look like I tried too hard to put an outfit together, but I also couldn't wear just any old clothes.
They had to be just right and in my opinion, they usually were.

My school days are over, but my desire to go back-to-school shopping has not left me yet.  As I walk by the aisles in stores filled with school supplies I have to look away so that I'm not pulled in my the sirens of the school aisle, calling to me to pick up some new folders and pens while I'm at it.
The same goes for the clothing shopping.  Back to school Whitney always asks me: "Isn't this the time of year you need to pick up some new pants, shirts, shoes (fill in the blank with any article of clothing here......you get the point.)?"
But pseudo-adult Whitney has to remember that I don't need any of this.
I just really want it.

So in the spirit of back-to-school and to honor back-to-school Whitney, here is my list of pseudo-adult Whitney's fall wants:

Red pants

Brown boots to wear with my dresses or pants

A Turquoise necklace

Some crazy colored tights

Oh look...brown boots!
 Belts, belts and more belts

Red Scarf and

an Orange scarf

Oh! More brown boots!  I'm sensing a theme.

And that, in a nutshell, is my list of fall wants!

Who wants to go back-to-school shopping with me now?

( P.S. All photos are from pinterest and I already picked up a cheetah print belt to start me off...)

Oh the places I could go...

if I wanted to.  January is over now and what do I have to show for it?  Darker circles under my eyes, a few more pounds that decided to take a nap on me and less time in the day to do what I really want to.  Other than those things, I really don't have a whole lot more to show for it, not really.  To be completely honest, it kind of makes me sad.  I was so optimistic about the new year and all of the exciting things to come with it. Then somewhere between now and then I lost my oomph....no wind in these sails.
I'm not sure if you've heard, but it's February and things are lookin' up for ol' Whitney.  Since Aaron has been laid off we've been able to spend more time together, especially over the weekend when I don't work.  We've been able to spend time with each other in service and today we took a quick, last-minute trip to Medford.  It was exactly what I needed.  I feel a little lighter and a lot less stir crazy just by getting out of our beautiful and amazing  (sarcasm...SARCASM) town for a day .  We had some of our dearest friends join us and we went everywhere.  We shopped, we ate, we tested beers, we shopped some more and came home.  It wasn't much but it was exactly what I needed.  Fun was had by all and we girls came home with some goodies.  Hope you are all doing well and having a delicious February so far!
